Storytelling

This year I run the English Reading Club. My intention was to make reading in English interesting, fun and enjoyable.

We already had some graded readers but my pupils read fast so we have run out of the books just a month after beginning. We have just made a new list of books we are going to order and while we are waiting for them to arrive we do other activities (searching the net for the qoutes for Christmas cards we are going to make).

There aren´t many pupils in the Club as I have organized it in a way that they had to do the Book Challenge in order to become a member of the Club.

Here are some of the challenges..
Read at least 2 books and make 2 notes in the forms that follow..

  • What´s the status? Create a Fb page for your character and write 3-4 status updates
  • You have three wishes! Write three wishes your character would have if he had a chance.
At the moment I am considering organizing a storytelling event, with a native speaker as a guest perhaps. Arguments for storytelling are quite strong as researches have shown that storytelling has to do with 8 intelligences every human being possesses. Here is a short video about it!

The connection between the intelligences and storytelling is best described in this table (Credits: Dianne Hackworth)

So, why not? :-)
