Step eight: Make a plan

When you find out who your children really are and what they are passionate about, help them make a plan!

The plan should be SMART:

S- specific

M- measurable

A- achievable

R- realistic

T- time bound

Children will probably struggle with 'acheivable' and 'realistic' aspect of the plan so they will need your help not to underestimate themselves or, on the other hand, set the ladder too high!

A good plan, now that they know their goal, should have following segments: goal, benefits, tasks and timeframe

Example:

GOAL: raise grades in English as a second language by the end of the first semester

BENEFITS: finally prove myself that I can do it, feel great about it, no more struggling with grammar, getting into the high school easier

TASKS:                                                                                         TIMEFRAME:

Make a list of the areas I need to work on more                          This weekend

Spend and extra 15 min every day to work on the                       For 3 months every day

problematic areas

Join the school group for additional clarification and                    The 1st week of school year

practice in English

Milestone- check grades                                                               End of each month

The above procedure and steps can be used for every area of your life as well, not only for the children. So, give it a try yourself!
