Step twelve: Get them to apply lessons learned
Reviewing what went wrong teaches children critical thinking skills. Finding and applying lessons learned will increase their grit and confidence in their ability to overcome obstacle in a systematic way.
Children, as well as adults, can benefit from additional viewpoints on the setback. Human beings are very good at self-delusion.
We need to guide the children in analyzing what went wrong. Write down what led up to the setback and what actually happened. Discuss what lesson they can draw from the setback and be sure to ask them a lot of questions so that the children really understand and own the lesson.
